Telemann's Missa brevis on the Easter chorale "Christ lag in Todes Banden" is one of eleven Latin short masses on church hymn melodies that have come down to us from his pen. The motet-like movement features a four-part choir accompanied by a basso continuo and reinforced by accompanying instruments, but the mass can also be performed without orchestral instruments and with organ accompaniment only.
