Georg Philipp Telemann has long been recognized as a composer of sacred music, especially German-language church cantatas. Over the course of his long life, however, he also composed Latin church works. Apart from smaller works, only the large psalm setting "Deus judicium tuum" is available in a new edition. These are now joined by the first scholarly-critical edition of the "Magnificat in C". Telemann probably composed this representative work, which, like Bach's well-known "Magnificat", is also scored for three trumpets and timpani, for the consecration of the organ in Leipzig's Neukirche in 1704. For ambitious church choirs, the work is an extremely rewarding task which will not fail to have an effect on the listener.
