The text was written by Father Michael Iten (1879–1953), a Capuchin friar from the canton of Uri, who captured a profound sense of home, nature, and quiet reverence in simple, poetic language.
The song was first collected and published in 1913 in the anthology “'s Alphorn”, edited in Sarnen and Zurich, a landmark collection dedicated to preserving Swiss folk music traditions.
