With ’s Basler Läggerli, David Rossel has created a charming and humorous choral piece that blends Basel local culture, dialect, and musical wit. The text by Gustav Küry – known for his clever and affectionate dialect poetry – describes Basel’s traditional biscuit in a playfully poetic way.
Rossel uses the well-known melody of “Ein Männlein steht im Walde”, which brings immediate familiarity and gives the piece a folk-like, almost nursery-rhyme quality. The three-part arrangement for women’s choir (SSA) is of moderate difficulty, requiring good intonation, rhythmic precision, and a feel for both text and humor.
