Rütti's first organ work (1975, 1981) is Verkündigung (Annunciation), begun as a birthday present for the composer's wife. The movements (The Angel, The Girl and Veni Creator Spiritus) are contemplations of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary, described in St Luke's Gospel, Chapter 28.
- Der Engel (The Angel) opens with a low pedal sound over which a bird sings - the bird becomes the angel Gabriel, visiting Mary.
- Das Mädchen (The Girl) depicts her initial fears now becoming rejoicing: her first Magnificat. In tonal terms, the whole of this second movement circles around E from the beginning to the end, but this is not a tonal center in the nature of a tonic key, as such: E is here better thought of as being the dominant of A.
With these movements completed, Rütti planned a third, about the Holy Spirit. But six years passed before he wrote it, for the 70th birthday of his organ professor at the Zürich Conservatory, Erich Vollenwyder.
- Veni Creator Spiritus is dedicated to him. The tone E of the second movement - now rhythmically played on two keyboards simultaneously - tums into a trio theme, under which the plainchant Veni Creator Spiritus appears in the pedal.
