These ar no pieces for children, but a series of charming pieces about children, originally composed for piano in 1838. Part 1 'Von fremden Ländern und Menschen”(About foreign countries and their inhabitants) has a marvelous tune, supported by a figure of triplets. Part 2 'Kuriose Geschichte” (A strange affair) tells a terrible story. Part 7, the famous 'Träumerei”(Dreaming asay), is a musical evocation of twilight. Part 13 'Der Dichter Spricht” (Conversation with the Poet) is quite self explanatory.
