The Belgian composer Jean-Marie Plum is known above all for his numerous romantic-expressive organ works. In addition, he also wrote sacred vocal music, especially masses and motets for small ensembles and for immediate use in the liturgy. His Mass for two equal voices (S/A or T/B) and organ, which appeared in a French church music periodical almost 100 years ago and was therefore known only to a small circle of experts, comes from this fund. With its many advantages, it seems tailor-made for the choral requirements of our day: two-part vocal writing in simple, mostly diatonic texture, individual passages can be taken over ad lib solo or by a small group of singers, the organ accompaniment contains no difficulties and the overall sound is distinguished by a noble evenness. Thus, with little rehearsal effort, this ordinarium can quickly provide a solid repertoire expansion for the two-part singing choir.
