A separate group of Lithuanian religious folklore includes spiritual holiday ceremonies and hymns that complement the old folk tradition of calendar festivals and ceremonies, sometimes inextricably linked. For my arrangement I have used two old Lithuanian wedding songs with lyrics full of diminutive forms. Wedding rituals are often mentioned in Christmas songs. The Lithuanian Christmas Eve has archaic features that allow an individual interpretation of the ritual as a revisiting of an old Indo-European creation myth. (Vytautas Miškinis) This movement was composed for the internationally renowned Calmus Ensemble and can be performed by ensembles as well as good amateur choirs. The corresponding recording can be found on the Calmus CD Folk Songs (Carus 83.034).
