Guiseppe Verdi (1813-1901) was conductor of his hometown orchestra in Busseto from 1836 to 1839, long before he became famous as an opera composer. During this period he composed pieces for this orchestra, and amongst thers this Adagio for trumpet. He destroyed many of his earlier works himself but luckily this Adagio, in which his opera composer skills already appear, did not get lost. An asset in concerts and trumpeter's repertoire!
