The term tarantella groups a number of different folk dances characterized by a fast upbeat tempo, usually in 6/8 meter accompanied by tambourines and is among the most recognized of traditional Italian music.Andrew Pearce has re-arranged the original composition for flexible instrumentation but kept the original ethnic instruments, should the conductor wish to include them. The piece suggests a Mediterranean Village Dance or Fair, always bright and tuneful.
