The new critical Carus edition is the first edition ever to be based on the two autographs that Mozart made separately for movements 1-6 and 7-8. The fact that the edition contains two additional original horn parts in the final movement, which have never before appeared in print, can be described as quite sensational. This makes it possible to perform the funeral music again in Mozart's instrumentation.
