Beethoven repeatedly described the Missa solemnis as his greatest work. "Coming from the heart", it was intended to touch and move people. Beethoven had worked long and hard on the composition in order to give the text an adequate expression - in his own words. In its scope and musical demands, the Missa solemnis goes far beyond the usual liturgical setting; the premiere took place in a concert hall for good reason. With the present arrangement for chamber orchestra (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, timpani and strings as well as organ ad libitum), smaller choirs and choirs with limited space or financial resources can now also perform this work, while retaining its symphonic character and high dynamic range. The instrumentation of only 7 instead of 18 wind instruments offers an optimal balance of transparency and orchestral sound. All vocal parts (solos and choir) are identical to the original version, so that the piano reduction and choir score can be used. Large mass can also be performed by smaller choirs Winds in the original version reduced to seven simple instruments Piano reduction and choral score of the original version can be used. carus plus: The work (original version) is available in the app carus music, the Choir Coach, as well as in the series Carus Choir Coach (audio only).
