With the last two Missae breves, the Missa Sancti Nicolai and the Missa Sancti Joannis de Deo, Haydn created masterpieces that were already among the most popular in this genre during his lifetime. Despite the layers of text in the Gloria and Credo, the "Kleine Orgelsolomesse" has never been accused of being unchurchlike, as the text is differentiated even in the unusually short Gloria (31 bars). A great strength of the composition lies in its almost magically captivating expression.The score also contains the organ part.
