It is always a special pleasure when English composers, who are appreciated for their sound-saturated choral music, write arrangements of well-known church carols in this country. This is also the case with the popular Christmas carol "Vom Himmel hoch", which Robert Jones has set to music in two (compatible) versions for SATB and SABar (BU 3053). As usual, all the verses are through-composed, again with low-voiced passages, and once again the movement is crowned by a descant in the last verse with the lower voices singing in unison. Pure Christmas music-making pleasure!
