The French composer Adam is famous for his operas such as, 'Le Roi d'Yvetot', 'La Poupée de Nuremberg' and 'Si j'étais Roi'. The overtures of most of these operas are still often performed by wind bands. Among his ballet music 'Giselle' was a huge succes. The peasant girl Giselle is in love with a young man, but ignores he is a Duke, promised to a Princess. After many adventures she finally discovers the truth and is killed by the grief.
