Frigyes Hidas
Frigyes Hidas (1928 - 2007)
Hidas was born and died in Budapest. He graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, where he studied composition with János Visky. His main activity was as musical director of the National Theater from 1951 to 1966 and at the Budapest Operetta Theater from 1974 to 1979.
As a freelance composer, Hidas was active throughout his life. He composed operas, ballet music, orchestral works, chamber music, and vocal and choral music. He was one of the leading names in the world of contemporary chamber and concert music for wind instruments. In collaboration with publishers Ben Cruiming, Hidas created a considerable number of compositions for wind orchestra, including his REQUIEM FOR PEACE for soloists, choir and symphonic wind orchestra.
