This work in four movements addresses the theme of 'Peace'. Each movement describes a particular state or atmosphere that has fueled my thinking, and the title 'Endless Peace' evokes eternal peace...
I. HOMEOSTASIS
recalls the fragility of peace, the delicate maintenance of its state of equilibrium, and various linear motifs will create, through tonal superimpositions, stereophonic tensions and relaxations. The movement will conclude with a return to the initial state of stability.
II. MENACING PEACE
evokes the risks and dangers of maintaining peace. This is an irregular movement in which the conductor and musicians must find a "common path"...
A disturbing and unfinished feeling runs throughout this movement. It is conveyed by a repetitive (cyclical) rhythm and by scales in tones and semitones constantly seeking resolution, a solution.
III. MARCHING FOR PEACE
reminds us that we must be together to strive for peace and freedom. In an Andante marching movement, it pays homage to a post-Romantic composer...
IV. TRUSTING IN PEACE
reminds us that we must "believe in peace" and never give up. With its sober and simple use of heterogeneous tonal atmospheres, it encourages reflection and remembrance.
Gradually, it becomes more animated and the future brightens! A return to the state of movement I brings out a gentle Swiss folk melody from Gruyère (Là-haut sur la Montagne by Joseph Bovet) from among the superimposed chords. It is the story of Jean who, after multiple storms destroyed his chalet, rebuilt it: more beautiful than before...
In conclusion, I will end with this aphorism:
"THERE'S NO WAY TO PEACE...
PEACE IS THE WAY"
