Anton Diabelli's very practical compositions have always been very popular with choirs singing for three or four voices. Looking at the printed exhibition collection op. 1, the editor discovered the manuscript of an alto voice enclosed to Mass No. 1 in the music archive of Einsiedeln Monastery, which congenially complements the original instrumentation (soprano and bass) and allows a three-part mixed performance. In this version, the work appears in print for the first time. Low bass tones are provided with alternative notes so that the men can sing in a pleasant baritone position. The edition also contains a "Cantate Domino" added to the Ordinary by the composer, which can also be used as an independent choral movement as a joyful hymn of praise independently of the Mass.
