The Czech composer Pavel Stanék was born in Prague in 1927. He studied at the conservatory there until 1950 and was the choirmaster of the folklore ensemble from 1950 to 1954. During his military service, he took over the management of the Central Brass Orchestra of the Ministry of the Interior and remained there as artistic director and conductor for almost six years. From 1961 to 1963, Pavel Stanék was the conductor at the operetta theater "Na Fidlovacce" in Prague, and from 1963 he was the head of the radio orchestra in Ostrava, a position he held until 1990. During this time and beyond, he also worked as a guest conductor for many orchestras. As a composer, he has made a particular mark on brass music with his unique compositions. He was often inspired by the folklore of his homeland. Stanék combines tradition and modernity in his music in a fascinating way. For example, the march is a very traditional form of music, but Stanék enriches it with some modern, witty elements, thereby creating his cheerful concert march "Compliment". The manuscript bore the title "My Compliment to M.B.", but nobody knows who M.B. is, except Pavel Stanék. However, it must be someone whom the composer holds in high esteem and with whom he associates positive memories, otherwise he would hardly have paid such a charming musical compliment to this person.
