Friedrich Spohr was a Saxon military musician. In 1864, he composed the world-famous march "Gruß an Kiel" (Greeting to Kiel) in memory of the march of Saxon troops into Kiel, in which he himself had participated. From 1868 to 1893, Friedrich Spohr was the director of the music corps of the infantry regiment no. 102 "Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria". In 1882, he was appointed music director. Due to his title, "Gruß an Kiel" quickly became a popular naval march and has also become internationally known. In Switzerland, the march is also known as the "Zofingen March" and is played there together with drummers.
