This arrangement makes it possible to perform the work in smaller settings. Characteristic of Haydn's orchestral writing is the brightly colored sound painting. The arranger has succeeded in finding the right colors for both the obbligato melody parts and the instrumental colla-parte passages. The arrangement is closely based on the musical text of the critical Carus edition of Haydn's original version (Carus 51.990, ed. W. Gersthofer), so that any existing choral scores, piano scores and string parts can continue to be used. By reducing the wind parts, the string section can also be smaller and fewer choristers are required. This edition aims to make this beautiful work accessible for smaller groups, for more cramped performance venues and for smaller budgets.
